Charlotte Brontė (1816-1855) and Emily Brontė (1818-1848) were British novelists and poets, sisters in a modest family of six children. Their father was pastor and encouraged them to pursue classical studies. They wrote under male pen names, Currer Bell for Charlotte, Ellis Bell for Emily.
Charlotte managed to publish "Jane Eyre" and "Wuthering Heights", the only novel by Emily, in 1847, a year before Emily died, struck by tuberculosis.

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontė:

Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontė :
Heathcliff is an abandoned child, adopted by the Earnshaw family. He falls in love with Catherine, the girl of the house, while Hindley, Catherine's brother, develops an intense dislike for him. Catherine appreciates Heathcliff, but she leaves Wuthering Heights to marry a man of her status. The situation turns to tragedy, with terrible consequences.
