This beautifully illustrated exhibition catalog highlights one of the premier decorative arts collections, housed at the Detroit Institute of Arts. The Anna Thomson Dodge collection contains a variety of furniture, paintings, ceramics, and other objets d'art originally created for some of Europe's most distinguished royal families. The introduction to the catalog contains a brief account of Dodge's prominence in American society and the arts, as well as the design and construction of her elegant palatial home, Rose Terrace, which was demolished in 1976. The catalog portion of the book organizes the 68 most important items of the collection by medium, related type, and then by the date. A brief biographical sketch is provided for each artist represented, and references and full citations are given for each work.
