Review:
In Crawling In The Dark, Pat s ability to touch his audience in this way is present throughout. As a reader, you feel as though you are taking an intimate and spiritual walk alongside a caring and wise friend. From the youth around the world whom he has encountered, to those as familiar to us as Jimmy Carter and Mister Rodgers, Pat addresses the universality of doubting faith by sharing numerous inspiring and honest stories. He is able to relate deep issues of spirituality and moral commitment to youth through these stories as well as contemporary song lyrics giving straightforward and practical tips for those of us who struggle with faith commitment, individuals doubting faith, or those simply looking to learn more about the faith journeys of others. Crawling In The Dark presents the journey of faith in a new and refreshing perspective for teens. It reassures young people that doubt is not only common and completely normal, but is also quite healthy. Patrick Sprankle is truly gifted in his ability to connect with young people on both a personal and spiritual level. Through his use of anecdotes, quotes from well-known and respected individuals in both pop culture and the religious community, and through inspiring faith stories from teens, his book provides a safe forum for young people to contemplate their own beliefs and ultimately grow in faith. The reader will inevitably finish with a new outlook on both doubt and faith. It is a novel that engages, inspires, comforts, and deserves several readings.
