About the Author:

Lois Rock is the author of a number of rhyming books for children, and several of her shorter poems have appeared in collections of verse.

She works as a children's book editor, and live in Oxfordshire with her husband and three children.

Ann Wilson graduated from Bath College of Higher Education in 1996 with a first-class degree in illustration. Her richly coloured collages have met with rapid acclaim in the world of children's book publishing.

PreS–Coupled with general statements about babies are thoughts, both verbal and visual, on how an older sibling might behave in a given situation, either unhappily being quiet while the infant sleeps, or cheerfully helping with the laundry. From here, the author deftly moves on to her main point: that all babies need to be nurtured, because love will help them learn to smile, talk, care, and share. As the illustrations show, it's the round-faced, curly-haired big brother, not much more than a toddler himself, who makes this happen by gentle interaction and example (in fact, the parents never even make an appearance). The end result is that "Love makes a baby a part of our family." This is a sweet book. The pages are soothingly small and square; the story is brief and could be read by an older to a younger sibling. The text, along with a single, illustrated item (a toy, a bowl, booties) faces a softly colored, full-page scene.
