Rebecca West was a pseudonym for Cicily Isabel Fairfield, a woman who had love affairs with Charlie Chaplin, H.G. Wells, and businessman, politician and newspaper magnate Max Beaverbrook. She published her first novel, The Return of the Soldier, in 1918.
