Jan Willem Hendryk's legacy amounts to a staggering £40 million - £34 million to go to an agricultural college in Kenya's Rift Valley, and the remaining £6 million to be divided equally between his only surviving descendants: Dirk, a South African, and Henry, a young drop-out living in California. But a number of suspicious circumstances emerge, including a clause in the will stating that Dirk must spend one month of every year in Kenya. What seems at first a simple matter of greed gradually assumes sinister proportions.

About the Author:
Desmond Bagley was born in 1923, in Kendal, a rural town in England's scenic Lake District. He left school aged fourteen and worked for a number of years in the aircraft industry before embarking on an adventure - travelling to South Africa by road and supporting himself along the way by working in gold and asbestos mines. Bagley spent the Fifties in South Africa, working as a freelance journalist and critic, before moving to Italy with his wife, Margaret, and then to Guernsey. His first novel, The Golden Keel, was based on a true story overheard by Bagley in a bar in Johannesburg, about Mussolini's vast personal riches and the men who went looking for it. It was published in 1963 to great acclaim and followed by a further fifteen popular adventure ovels. Bgley's career spanned two decades and his influence can be seen in the work of several highly respected thriller writers. When he died, in 1983, his final novel, Juggernaut, was completed by his wife.
From AudioFile:
An intriguing chess game of international espionage is played out mostly in Kenya by American, British and South African interests. Klaff's narration perfectly conveys the stalking, waiting, and seeing "what the other guys do." He masters the many accents with ease, but this international cast is not for listeners who prefer American voices. For those who enjoy cat-and-mouse intrigue the story is tops and the narration enhances it. The colorful characters and Kenyan location are brought alive with Klaff's narration. He tunes his pace and timing to the flow of the story. An excellent example of how an audiobook can revive an older story and put it to the top of selection lists. R.F.W.
