About the Author:
Joachim Fest (1926-2006) was born in Berlin. He was drafted into the German army during the final phase of World War II, and later studied law, history, and German literature. From there,hehad a wide-ranging career in newspapers and radio, leading him to his final appointment asPublisher of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. Other books by FestincludeHitler, Plotting Hitler's Death,Speer,and Inside Hitler's Bunker, his celebrated biography of Adolf Hitler.
