Each title in the series covers one aspect of English life in the late-19th or early-20th century and has a short general introduction to set the historical context. The photographs are accompanied by extended captions. This volume offers a pictorial record of rural northern England in the first half of the 20th century. The author has written many social history books and is the founder of the Beamish Open-Air Museum.
