About the Author:

Dana D. Brooks is a professor and dean of the School of Physical Education at West Virginia University. He received a B.S. from Towson State University (1973), and an M.S. (1976) and an Ed.D. (1979) from West Virginia University. Dr. Brooks' research, publications, and professional presentations have focused on the African American student-athlete experience, coaching-career mobility patterns, and race relations within intercollegiate athletics. He is a c0-author of The African American Athlete Resource Directory with Dr. Ronald Althouse.

Ronald Althouse is a professor of sociology, chairperson of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, and director of the Survey Research Center at West Virginia University. He received his M.A. and Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Althouse's research interests and publications have focused on workers' health, health care delivery, and health systems. He coedited both the first and the second editions of Racism in College Athletics: The African American Athlete's Experience (Fitness Information Technology, Inc.) with Dana Brooks. Both Dr. Brooks and Dr. Althouse are authors of The African American Athlete Resource Directory.
