About the Author:

Trish Reeves, a graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Journalism and the Warren Wilson College MFA Program, was born and raised in Missouri. Her first book of poems, Returning the Question, received the Cleveland State University Poetry Center Prize. She has received fellowships for her poetry from the National Endowment for the Arts, Yaddo, and the Kansas Arts Commission. Reeves currently lives in Kansas.

The way a woman
carries silence in her womb
until the child touches air--
that's how I went looking for you,
your naked touch,
your form vaguely specific.

When I found you
and you threw your shawl about us,
those who looked from windows,
even those who stared for hours,
could set no example.
