Italian Love Stories - A Kentuckian's Journal of Tuscany is a witty and observant account of life in Italy for a transplanted Kentuckian. The interweaving of vignettes about the challenges of everyday living in the tiny Tuscan hill town of Volterra with stories of life in Kentucky makes this a fascinating and hilarious look at the eccentricities of both cultures. Wandering through the ancient stone streets of Volterra, the reader meets characters like Lenzo Borghini, the hardware guy, and Italy's restaurant critics-at-large; old men sitting in cafes. Turn the corner and you are back in Kentucky at Darlin' Jean's Apple Cobbler Cafe eating broccoli slaw and sipping sweet tea with young men telling tales of turkey hunting. The characters are richly drawn and their stories come vibrantly alive through the plain-spoken, quirky voice of a Kentuckian.
