About the Author:

Edward Bates became one of Mrs. Eddy's most trusted students due to his unwavering faith, obedience and ability to follow Mary Baker Eddy’s demonstrations in connection with the building of the Mother Church edifice in Boston, MA. He and his wife attended the Primary Class of November, 1887 taught by Mrs. Eddy and subsequently served the Leader of Christian Science for many years going through two additional classes with her. The Bateses were instrumental in the demonstration and timely construction of the Mother Church edifice. Mr. Bates was also entrusted by Mrs. Eddy with the giving of one of the addresses on Christian Science at the Chicago World’s Fair in 1893.
