Acanthus, asymmetrically is both the title of a new site-specific wall piece made by British sculptor Alison Wilding (b. 1948) for her London galleries entrance hall and her accompanying exhibition at the Offer Waterman Gallery (2017). A petite but elegant catalog documents the wall work along with twelve new pieces, ranging from works on paper, prints, and sculptural works. The title was inspired by the gallery being located in the former headquarters of William Morris & Co.its founder being one of the greatest designers of the nineteenth century, a pivotal figure of the Arts and Crafts Movement, and world-renowned for his wall paper and fabric designs. Wildings wall piece incorporates the iconic acanthus motif of Morris, with her own handprinted wallpaper, bringing it together with a deliberate asymmetry typical of Wildings sculptures. Wildings work has been extensively collected with solo exhibitions at the Serpentine Gallery (1985), MoMA new York (1998), a retrospective at Tate Liverpool (1991) and a survey at the Tate Modern (2013).

Book Description Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. This volume presents 12 drawings made by the prominent British sculptor Alison Wilding during her time at art school in the 1960s and 1970s, offering an insight into a key period in the artist's development. The first nine works collectively referred to as the 'Ethos of the Petrol Station' drawings were a response to a project during the artist's time at Nottingham College of Art. The final three works date from her Royal College of Art years, and were used as a tool for documenting and furthering her finished sculpture. Taken together, the works provide a glimpse into Wilding's progress in the studio at that time, and connect the drawings not only to student sculptures, but also to drawings and sculptures made almost 40 years later.
