About the Author:

Thomas E. Piemme, MD, is Emeritus Professor of Health Care Sciences and Medicine at The George Washington University. He is the former Chair of the Department of Health Care Sciences, and Associate Dean for CME. He is a Past President of PAEA, and of NCCPA. He is currently President of the Physician Assistant History Society.

Alfred M. Sadler, Jr., MD, was Founding Director of the Yale PA Progam, Founding President of PAEA, coauthor of the first policy book about PAs and served as a Senior Officer of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, all in the 1970 s. For the past 32 years has practiced primary care medicine in Monterey County, CA, where he has worked with and precepted PAs and NPs. He is President Elect of the PA History Society.

Reginald D. Carter, PhD, PA, is the former Chief of the Division of Physician Assistant Education in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Duke University. He is a Past President of PAEA. He was the founding Executive Director, and is currently the Historian Emeritus of the Physician Assistant History Society.

Ruth Ballweg, MPA, PA-C, is Professor and Director of the MEDEX Northwest Physician Assistant Program in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Washington. She is a Past President of PAEA and of the Physician Assistant History Society, which she currently serves as Historian. She is a recipient of the Eugene A. Stead Award from the AAPA.
