This fascinating book traces the life and service of Swami Satchidananda, the famed Yoga master and founder of Integral Yoga, up to 1962. It carries valuable insights into the spiritual growth and transformation of a young man from a farming family in a remote part of India into a world-renowned spiritual giant. Sent by his Guru, Sri Swami Sivananda of Rishikesh, to Sri Lanka in the early 1950s, Swami Satchidananda established the Divine Life Society there and spread the message of Yoga, meditation, and spirituality. This book contains some very rare newspaper reports on his activities and speeches, as well as talks he gave and articles he wrote during the 1950s. As early as 1958, when there were no facilities, Sri Swamiji undertook the arduous Kailash Manasarovar yatra, considered the ultimate pilgrimage. He traveled all over India and East Asian countries, visited all holy places, and conducted Yoga asanas, meditation classes, and spiritual discourses. He was invited to America in 1966 and started the Integral Yoga Institutes there and in many other parts of the world.

About the Author:

Pandit S. Lakshmi (affectionately known as Miss Rajalakshmi, and later known as Swami Arivananda after her Sannyas initiation in 1987)was a disciple of Sri Swami Satchidananda Maharaj and a pillar of the Divine Life Society of Sri Lanka. She wrote this biography in the Tamil language in 1962. It was later translated into English by Padmasri D.R. Kaarthikeyan, former special director of the Central Bureau of Investigation and former Director General, National Human Rights Commission.
