Oklahoma's own Will Rogers had a love for people and adventure. During his lifetime, he was a ranch hand, trick roper, vaudeville performer, film star, journalist, author, radio personality, aviation pioneer, and star of the Broadway stage and the big screen. Born November 4, 1879 in Indian Territory, near present-day Oologah, Oklahoma, Rogers was the youngest of eight children born to Clement Vann Rogers and Mary America Schrimsher Rogers. Part Cherokee, Will became known as "the Cherokee Kid." From a young age, his folksy persona became his trademark. He was admired by the common man as much as he was by sitting presidents. This heavily-illustrated children's book tells the story of one of Oklahoma s favorite sons and how his wit and wisdom charted his course for a lifetime of adventure.

About the Author:
FRANK KEATING grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and received his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University and a law degree from the University of Oklahoma. His 30-year career in law enforcement and public service included service as an FBI agent, U.S. Attorney and state prosecutor, and Oklahoma House and Senate member, including service as a Republican senate leader. He served Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush in the Treasury, Justice, and Housing departments. In 1993 Keating returned home to Oklahoma to run for Governor. Winning a three-way race by a landslide and easily re-elected in 1998, he became only the second governor in Oklahoma history to serve two consecutive terms. As the governor, Keating won national acclaim in 1995 for his compassionate and professional handling of the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal building in Oklahoma City. In the aftermath of the tragedy, he raised more than six-million dollars to fund scholarships for the nearly 200 children left with only one or no parents. Keating is the author of several award-winning children's books--including biographies of Will Rogers, Theodore Roosevelt, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Standing Bear, the Ponca Indian chief who argued Native Americans deserve the same rights as white Americans--and is the recipient of six honorary degrees. He is currently a senior partner in the international law firm of Holland & Knight and lives with his wife Cathy in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They have three children and eleven grandchildren. MIKE WIMMER was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma, and received his BFA from the University of Oklahoma and had the opportunity to study with Don Punchatz at The Sketch Pad Studio in Arlington, Texas. Wimmer later completed his MFA at the University of Hartford in Hartford, Connecticut. He is Professor of Illustration at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Savannah, Georgia, and formerly served as the Distinguished Visiting Artist at the School of Visual Arts in the Petree College of Arts and Sciences at Oklahoma City University. With author Frank Keating, he also has created illustrations for GEORGE, ABRAHAM, THE TRIAL OF STANDING BEAR, and THEODORE. He maintains two studios, one in Edmond, Oklahoma, with his wife Jime, an Assistant Professor at the University of Central Oklahoma, and one in Savannah, along with his virtual studios at MikeWimmer.com and MikeWimmerportraits.com. Together they have four children and one grandchild.
