Set during and after World War II, Sea Room chronicles 3 generations of the Dupuy family living on the rugged coast of Maine, harvesting crops from the land and lobsters from the sea. The Dupuys lead lives of honor and warm simplicity ... until the war ravages their peaceful existence. When Gil Dupuy responds to the attack on Pearl Harbor and the subsequent German declaration of war on the United States by enlisting in the army, his parents, wife and son Jordi are left to battle on the home front. Gil’s feisty mother grows food and organizes scrap drives to support the troops. His young wife bravely battles loneliness and temptation by taking Gil’s place on the family lobstering boat. And his father, Pip, a veteran of World War I, struggles to protect his family from the harshest truths of war. Together, Pip and Jordi keep alive Gil’s dream of building a fine sailboat, their way of salvaging truth and beauty from the chaos and agony of war. But the very hardships that draw the family together also strain its bonds and each of them is forced to define what it means to live with integrity in the face of the evil they witness through Gil’s agonizing letters ... even when one of them is ultimately tried for murder. Told in luminous and vivid prose that captures the rugged coast of Maine—the salt air, the cold embrace of fog, the ebb and flow of the tides, and the turn of the seasons—Sea Room is a timeless story about being pushed to the limits of adversity and fighting for the freedom to set your own course ... the freedom of sea room.

From the Publisher:
I was immediately swept away in time and place by this evocative and accomplished first novel. Norman Gautreau has created an irresistible universe that centers on a saltwater farm on the rugged coast of Maine during World War II.

This is the story of family love and courage under unspeakable circumstances. And the honorable lives of the member of the Dupuy family teach us that, with enough hope, we can always find a little sea room.

About the Author:
After a career as a management consultant and public speaking coach, Norman Gautreau left the profession to pursue his writing career. He and his wife drastically simplified their lives, sacrificing much of what they had accumulated, and today he writes full time, with his wife as a loving, but tough editor. They live in Wakefield, MA. Sea Room is his first novel.
