RAW THΦUGHTS provides voyeuristic glimpses of the heart and mind in a way that is pseudo-chronological, a purposeful evolution from loss and despair to catharsis, introspection to illumination, and from there to happiness and love. Poems and photographs are symbiotically paired within to form visceral, emotional vignettes (raw thoughts), exhibiting what happens in life with the aim of evoking contemplation about what can be done to make things better.

The poetry is largely accessible, with enough complexity to placate the serious poetic enthusiast. This is intentional, as RAW THΦUGHTS is not specifically targeted at the MFA-touting echelon. The targeted reader is everyone.

All photos were shot with vintage film cameras using 60mm (medium format) and 35mm black and white film.

About the Author:

JOHN CASEY is originally from New Hampshire and earned a Master of Arts from Florida State University in 1994, then began his military career as a tactical airlift and developmental test pilot. Casey left the cockpit in 2005 to work as a diplomat and international affairs strategist at the Pentagon, embassies in Germany and Ethiopia, and at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas where he retired in 2015. Since then, he has focused on his writing. His work has appeared in numerous domestic and international literary journals and magazines. Raw Thoughts is Casey's first book (Adelaide Books, New York, Lisbon), and he is currently working on a spy thriller trilogy: Devolution, Evolution, and Revelation. Devolution will be released in the fall of 2019. He is passionate about fitness, music, nature and the human spirit. His writing is inspired by the incredible spectrum of people, places and cultures he has experienced throughout his life.
