Struwwelpeter ist der Titel eines Werkes des Frankfurter Arztes und Psychiaters Heinrich Hoffmann aus dem Jahr 1844 und zugleich die Titelfigur des Buches. Das seit 1845 gedruckte Bilderbuch enthält mehrere Geschichten, in denen oft Kinder nach unvorsichtigem Verhalten drastische Folgen erleiden, die von einem Sturz ins Wasser bis zum Tod reichen. Der Struwwelpeter gehört zu den erfolgreichsten deutschen Kinderbüchern und wurde in zahlreiche Sprachen übersetzt. Die vielen Adaptionen werden Struwwelpet(e)riaden genannt. Den Geschichten des Struwwelpeters warf man in den 1970er und 80er Jahren einen autoritären Erziehungsstil vor. Spätestens seit den Publikationen zum 200. Hoffmann-Jubiläum 2009 hat sich diese Vorstellung – auf den historischen Kontext Hoffmanns bezogen – revidiert. Der zeitbezogene warnend-pädagogische Ansatz Hoffmanns wird nun hervorgehoben.
