The post-Cold War era has seen a reinvigoration of Sino-Africa relations anchored on economic pragmatism embedded in the use of soft power paradigm and dictated by China’s energy needs, markets for its goods and services and global power aspirations. Indeed, China has become not only a significant global economic power but Africa’s single exporter dwarfing the US, UK and France. This book while contributing to our understanding of the dynamics of China-Africa relations, examines the various channels- trade, investment, aid and public diplomacy- through which China is expanding and deepening its relations with Africa. Furthermore, the book examines the concept of communities of practice (CoP) and the various drivers used by China to build certain practices, values and norms African states and that might advance and promote its interests.
