About the Author:
Geboren am 18.03.1806 in Kassel; gestorben am 03.04.1889 in Gelnhausen (Hessen). Strubberg war der Sohn eines wohlhabenden Tabakhändlers. Er erhielt eine gute Erziehung und begann 1822 eine Lehre in einem großen Bremer Handelshaus. Aus unbekannten Gründen ging er 1826 oder 1828 in die Vereinigten Staaten, angeblich nach einem Duell, in dem er einen Rivalen schwer verwundet hatte. 1829 kehrte er zurück, da die väterliche Firma in finanzielle Schwierigkeiten geraten war. 1833 fuhr er erneut nach Amerika, wo er wiederum als Kommissionär die Interessen von Handelshäusern vertrat. Ein zweites Mal muß er wegen eines Duells untertauchen. Er taucht 1845 unter dem Namen Dr. Schubbert in Texas auf, dort gründet er mit einigen wenigen Männern eine Kolonie. Strubberg kehrte 1854 nach Deutschland zurück. Ab 1858 veröffentlichte er seine Erlebnisse in Texas in fiktionaler Verarbeitung.
