La obra de Caicedo esta considerada una de las mas originales de la literatura colombina. Se suicido el 4 de marzo de 1977, cuando tenia veinticinco anos, el mismo dia que recibio la primera copia impresa de Que viva la música!, la obra por la que es recordado hasta hoy.

He was 25 when he committed suicide, the same day he received the first printed copy of ¡Que viva la música!, for which he is remembered to this day.
