The last of the Sprawl trilogy: the AIs of Neuromancer have suffered a traumatized, cataclysmic coming to self-awareness and now haunt cyberspace as voodoo powers. Mona's pimp sells her to a plastic surgeon in New York and she's turned overnight into someone else. The pimp winds up dead. Mona weeps for him. She's a sweet, dumb girl! so far. Angie the famous Hollywood stim star has started remembering things. Despite the efforts of studio bosses to keep her in ignorance, Angie will discover who she really is! and why she doesn't need to jack into the Matrix in order to enter cyberspace. In the depths of the rustbelt, the ring of steel garbage and toxic waste surrounding the Sprawl, Gentry obsessively seeks the darkest secrets of the Matrix. Seeking rapture. When an impossibly tall and powerful skyscraper of data appears suddenly in the landscape of the Matrix, Gentry is ready for it, Angie is part of it, and Mona is set for overdrive. Rapture is on the agenda for all three, but others greedy for money and power will fight them to the death.

Review:
Into the cyber-hip world of William Gibson comes Mona, a young girl with a murky past and an uncertain future whose life is on a collision course with internationally famous Sense/Net star Angie Mitchell. Since childhood, Angie has been able to tap into cyberspace without a computer. Now, from inside cyberspace, a kidnapping plot is masterminded by a phantom entity who has plans for Mona, Angie, and all humanity, plans that cannot be controlled...or even known. And behind the intrigue lurks the shadowy Yakuza, the powerful Japanese underworld, whose leaders ruthlessly manipulate people and events to suit their own purposes.

An over-the-top thrill ride sequel to Neuromancer and Count Zero.

From the Publisher:

Into this world comes Mona, a young girl with a murky past and an uncertain future whose life is on a collision course with internationally famous Sense/Net star Angie Mitchell. Since childhood, Angie has been able to tap into cyberspace without a computer. Now, from inside cyberspace, a kidnapping plot is masterminded by a phantom entity who has plans for Mona, Angie, and all humanity, plans that cannot be controlled . . . or even known. And behind the intrigue lurks the shadowy Yazuka, the powerful Japanese underworld, whose leaders ruthlessly manipulate people and events to suit their own purposes . . . or so they think.

ILT Books
(Gilbert, AZ, U.S.A.)

Book Description Soft cover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. William Gibson was one of the original cyberpunks, and his career has continued to evolve in new and interesting ways. With MONA LISA OVERDRIVE, he joined the Bantam Spectra line (the publishing line where the current bookseller had his own debut). This is the pre-publication advance reading copy of the first American edition (slightly following the British edition). It's a little worse for wear, primarily because the cheap paper has yellowed. There's some slight foxing/flaking around the edges of the wrappers, and some of the smudging typical of black covers. It is an unread copy, with no creases in the spine, and it's INSCRIBED by Gibson to the current bookseller, who was a prominent southern CA genre bookseller at the time. Laid in is a letter (mass-produced, not a personal letter) from the publisher, announcing the acquisition of this groundbreaking author. Inscribed by Author(s). Seller Inventory # 157913
