"This is the first collection of poems on Negro subjects that Langston Hughes has made since "Shakespeare in Harlem.".Here the man Carl Van Vechten called, "the Negro Poet Laureate" brings together happy lyrics, dirges, dramatic coliloquies, and love songs that are the distillation of a rich human understanding." An attractive copy in the original bright yellow paper-covered boards and finely-woven black cloth spine which is stamped in red gold with a few touches of light flecking. With slight bumping to the corners and to the top of the rear panel. In the original dustjacket which has the price of "$2.75 net" printed in red at the top of the inside front flap. The front panel is printed in red with yellow and white lettering, and it is very clean and bright with some light chipping along the bottom edge. The rear panel and the spine are darkened and soiled with one stain that has transferred a small brown circle on the rear boards of the book. Overall, a good plus copy signed by the author.
