Description:

Czech Language. Limited edition of 100 copies, edited by Jaroslav Benda and printed in Prague on van Gelder hand made paper. This copy is not numbered. The collected poetry of the Czech Symbolist Poet, Otokar Brezine; included are all 5 books, Tajemne Dalky, Svitani Na Zapade, Vetry Od Polu, Stavitele Chramu, Ruce [my spell check quavers!]. A well preserved copy, bound in a rust-brown card cover imprinted with a black octagonal figure surrounding a low candle holder with 3 flames; the cover is very lightly rubbed, has a faint sign of a round label previously affixed to the upper front cover, and is frayed at the spine extremities, with a one inch tear at the upper spine, but only a shred of missing material. The binding remains secure, with no tearing of the end papers. On the front paste down is a neatly glued bookplate, which has discolored the front free end paper opposite slightly. The interior is clean and unmarked, the creamy paper untrimmed. The first page contains the half-title. The following 2 pages present the publishing information on the left, the author, title, and listing of individual books to the right. These are attractively placed within wide black decorative borders, the overall effect being a rather leafy pattern formed of swirling twig-like sprigs. The poetry follows, with no introductory material and no further decoration. The final poem concludes on page 192, after which there is an index listing individual poems within each of the 5 books, with their page numbers. The final page contains the colophon. [A].
