One of the cardinal works of American radical reform which exerted considerable influence on the Greenback and Populist movements. To remedy the increasing concentration of wealth, Kellogg urged an "interconvertible bond plan of financial reform" under which interest would be abolished by means of government notes issued on the security of land or other "real" values. The Greenback movement was an American counterpart, during the decade of the 1840's and again in the 1860's, of the anarchist and communist philosophies of Europe.
