From Booklist:
Gr. 4-7. The subtitle is apt. Readers will come away from this well-paced biography with the impression that Rice is darn near perfect. Raised in a middle-class home in Birmingham by her father, a pastor and teacher, and her mother, a musician, Rice read music before books. She was performing piano recitals by the time she was four, but she decided to give up a music career when she felt she would never reach the upper echelon of the field. A lecture on international relations by Madeleine Albright's father led her to a career in international relations, where she became the protegee of several important military and political figures, including the first president Bush and, later, his son. Rice's current job as National Security Advisor is briefly covered, but the focus here is on her accomplishments. Nicely peppered with quotes (unsourced) and many black-and-white and color photographs (some from her early life), this is an attractive addition to the Gateway Biography series. Ilene Cooper

From School Library Journal:
Grade 4-6-This title traces Rice's life from her birth in Birmingham, AL, to her current role as national security adviser to President George W. Bush. Emphasis is placed on Rice's rise from a childhood in the "Jim Crow" South to a position of national importance and her place as a young woman in a world of "gray-haired" men. The facts are presented in short sentences in large print and accompanied by many well-chosen color and black-and-white photographs. The few quotes included illustrate Rice's determination and goal-setting ability. Fact boxes inform readers about the music she listens to as she works out, about her religious faith and favorite hymns, and more. A time line, a not very useful list of books and articles for further reading, and a helpful index are included.
