Book Description Cloth, gilt cover-title, 4to, 31 cm, 444 pp, ills. From the Editors' Note: "This volume covers the graphic work of three prominent artists active in neighboring regions of the German Empire of Maximilian I. The problems posed, however, in reworking and editing the lists of Bartsch are somewhat different in each case. There has been considerable recent research regarding the graphice work of Burgkmair and Cranach. Hollstein's lists of the works of these two artists, representing the latest attempt at an oeuvre catalogue - apart from the alarmingly great number of minor errors - have already for the most part been superseded. For Schaufelein, a very reliable and comprehensive study of his book illustrations has been issued by M.C. Oldenbourg, whereas for his single-leaf woodcuts we have to go back to the selection of Geisberg, now fifty years old. No complete oeuvre catalogue of Scha felein's woodeuts has been attempted in this century." Booklabel on front pastedown endpaper, spine faded with small sticker shadow at head, upper fore-edge corners of pp 283-288 creased and mis-trimmed in the press affecting the running titles but not the images, otherwise Very Good.
