Having among studied among the Khanty and written widely about them, Kulemzin (history, Tomsk State U.) led the team of scholars that produced this first treatise to appear in English about the Uralic speaking people Western Siberian people. They wrote it in Russian, actually, and Marja-Leea Hattuneimi translated it into English. The alphabetical entries discuss objects, ceremonies, activities and other matters pertaining to Khanty mythology. Introductory essays outline the sources of information and the traditional Khanty world view. Three poems are also included. Distributed in the US by ISBS.
