Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) was founded in 1966 to commemorate 150 years of unbroken peace in Sweden. Its task is to conduct scientific research into questions of conflict and cooperation of importance for international peace and security, in order to contribute to
an understanding of the conditions for peaceful solutions of international conflicts and for a stable peace.
"This is the 'grandparent' of reference books in the field of international security. For nearly 40 years, the
SIPRI Yearbook has consistently provided researchers and laypeople alike with clear, concise, and unbiased information on the arms trade, military assistance programs, armed conflict, and so much more. This year's volume is organized into three broad areas: 'Security and Conflicts,' 'Military Spending and Armaments,' and 'Non-proliferation, Arms Control and Disarmament'...An excellent glossary in the beginning introduces common abbreviations and international organizations (giving Web addresses). A well-done index concludes the volume...Highly recommended."--
