Rather than narrating a complete history of the war, each of the nine volumes of this set is devoted to a single offensive (they are Lorraine, Normandy, Operation Cobra, the Rhineland, the Battle of the Bulge, Omaha Beach, Utah Beach, Gold and Juno Beaches, and Sword Beach). Each author describes events leading to the battle, the strategies of both sides, the composition of the armed forces involved, their commanders, the details of the campaign, and the battlefield today. Several volumes include a section for wargaming; and all include include detailed color maps, tables of the order of battle, and copious period photographs. Praeger's Illustrated Military History Series (0-275-98358-7) comprises a number of such sets as this and will be a useful resource for college students and readers interested in military history. These volumes are reprints of books published originally by Osprey Publishing Ltd in the UK between 1991 and 2003. Each is 96 pages and is also available individually.
