When the Nazis occupied Holland the family was forced to flee again, because they were Jews. They remained in Amsterdam, hiding in the abandoned half of an old office building, along with another family. Anne was thirteen years old at this time. In her diary Anne reveals the relations between eight people living under extraordinary conditions, facing hunger, the ever present threat of discovery and death, boredom, petty misunderstandings. Anne's account of their daily lives is a fascinating commentary on human behavior.
