Book Description Softcover. Condition: Fine condition. Signed Ida Wyman on title page. Quarto. 60pp. Original photo-illustrated wraps with black lettering on cover. Frontispiece photograph. Illustrated with forty-one full-page b/w photographs, incl. frontispiece and cover photos, by Ida Wyman and some in-text photographs. With essays by Melanie Herzog, "Ida Wyman: Chords of Memory," and Ida Wyman "ACME Newspictures." Ida Wyman was a member of the New York Photo League in the 1940s and '50s and shot over one hundred assignments for Life Magazine. "Wyman's work displays her affinity with her Photo League contemporaries who sought subjects across a broad social spectrum within their contemporary urban landscape. In diverse neighborhoods she photographed a range of social interactions and moments of focused solitude; images of people on the move suggest the resurgence of social mobility in the post-war years. She never looked down on her subjects-visually or socially. There is gentle irony to some of these photographs, but not the sardonic recording of outsiders and misfits characteristic of the work of some of her contemporaries such as street photographers as Weegee and Lisette Model-whose images Wyman finds occasionally "invasive."
