Authors Earle G. Shettleworth Jr., director of the Maine Historic Preservation Commission, and Lydia B.Vandenbergh, a free-lance researcher and descendant of one of the early island photographers, have created informative and engaging captions, based on newspaper records, early guides, diaries, and interviews with residents, that will delight residents and visitors alike.
