The author subtitled this work "The origin, art and culture of the Maori People of New Zealand" and it is a comprehensive but easily understood survey of the Maori race in those terms. He divided the study into 11 chapters, followed up with three appendices. Complementing the excellent text is a first class selection of b/w illustrations, ranging through historic photographs, early art, informal sketches, diagrams plus maps and a tribal geneaology table, often several images to a page.
