The story is essentially Rod Sterlings and is told mainly from his point of view. It sees him caught up in a web of historical events that first occurs during World War II, when he is a lad of thirteen, and continues as he becomes involved in Fidel Castros struggle for power in Cuba. The story is also of Conchita Quesada, the headstrong, young and winsome black-eyed Latin beauty. She sets a fire in Rods blood that would not be quenched. Their life together is filled with violence, danger, romance, adventure, mystery, and political intrigue. The book is appealing, in part, because it reads like the current events of the era in which the novel takes place. Rising Tide will leave the reader acutely aware of the menace that communism presented in the Caribbean Basin and Central America.

My name is Conchita Quesada, she whispered, as her sensual body seemed to melt against him. Never having experienced such an overwhelming physical sensation before in his young life, Rod was hard put to remember his own.

***

Warm hands encircled his body from behind as he stood and pondered his situation. He could feel the tension slowly draining away, as nimble fingers unbuttoned his shirt.

Don't be frightened, Chico, Conchita is here. Why don't you take off your clothes and relax on the bed while I prepare myself. I want to be extra special for you tonight.

I'll be okay, Rod said as he turned and smiled down at her, Just a little nervous, I guess.
