Ariel is a long essay by the Uruguayan critic José Enrique Rodó (1871-1917) which emphasizes spiritual values as against exclusively materialist progress. This edition contains the Spanish text of the essay, with a long introduction, based on extensive research in the Rodó Archives.
About the Author:
José Enrique Rodó (1871-1917). Uruguay. Se dedicó al periodismo, al ensayo y a la enseñanza. Fue miembro de la generación de 1900. Diputado por el Partido Colorado en varias ocasiones, pero crÃÂtico con el batllismo oficial, viajó a Europa en 1916 como corresponsal literario de Caras y Caretas. Fundó la Revista Nacional de Literatura y Ciencias Sociales (1895-1897), y ejerció la crÃÂtica literaria. Sus ensayos aparecieron en un volumen titulado La vida nueva.
