Sustainability requires design professionals to expand the considerations of design beyond the traditional ethical points of view and to provide a balanced analysis of how a sustainable standard of care might be composed. While other books might cover the environment and design, professional ethics are addressed as an afterthought at most, if at all. "Sustainability and Design Ethics" grew out of my experiences as a working professional and as an academic. Clearly the very nature of the duty design professionals have to society and the public welfare require some rethinking as we begin to address issues of sustainability. Even some principles of design ethics that are foundational may need to be rethought and reinterpreted in a sustainable world. This book was written to provide some input into the thinking and discussion that should lead to change.

About the Author:

Tom Russ is a professor of environmental technology at the College of Southern Maryland, La Plata, USA. He is also the author of "Site Planning and Design Handbook" and "Redeveloping Brownfields."
