Pingouin is a French yarn company that has been producing fine hand-knitting yarns since the late 1920s. There is much to like about this collection of recent patterns designed to showcase Pingouin yarns: The garments are classic rather than trendy designs that would quickly date the book, and each design includes a large, full-color photograph of the garment, beautifully laid-out instructions, schematics, and relaxed contemporary sizing. Each is graded for level of difficulty, and there is a good mix of projects for all members of the family, with emphasis on designs for women's fashions. Best of all, the patterns will still be usable when the yarns specified in the instructions are no longer available, as the author wisely includes generic weight, fiber content, ball size, and gauge information for each yarn. Highly recommended for public libraries where knitting is of interest.
