Jack E. Shaw, from an obscure, humble beginning, is acknowledged by society's measure as a person of success and significance on the journey of life. Driven by faith and desire and guided by the principles of God's Word, he epitomizes “Success and Significance in the Journey for Life.” He achieved a distinguished career as real estate developer, general contractor, and investor. Multiple residential subdivisions and commercial developments showcase: “The House That Jack Built” “The Apartments That Jack Built” “The Shopping Center That Jack Built” He describes his avocation as banking. Somewhat visionary, he abandoned his plan to own a bank and only participated in the evolving banking environment that allowed multiple bank holding companies and interstate banking franchises, leading to a frenzy of mergers and acquisitions. His banking journey began as director of the Bank of Greer and, via merger, was elected a director of United Carolina Bankshares. Through a subsequent merger he became a director of Branch Bank and Trust Company (BB&T).Jack Shaw is more than his accomplishments through businesses and investments. Along the journey he was elected to the South Carolina General Assembly. He has served as trustee and chairman of the Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center Board of Trustees, member of the Clemson University Foundation Board, member of the Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention, member of the Southern Baptist Foundation's Board of Trustees, the Greenville Community Foundation Board, and the Greenville Tech Foundation Entrepreneur's Forum, as well as the chairman of the Emmanuel College Board of Trustees and on the Board of Regents of Oral Roberts University. He has also served on the Samaritan's Purse Board, the World Medical Missions Board, and Holmes Bible College Board of Trustees. He is an accomplished lay speaker, teacher, lecturer, and mentor to aspiring young entrepreneurs.Mr. Shaw is a dedicated steward of the resources entrusted to him, guided by the principle that “to whom much is given, much is required.” He is an “under the radar” philanthropist, focused primarily on educational institutions and student scholarship incentives.He is chairman and CEO of the Shaw Resources real estate and property management corporation in Greenville, South Carolina. He and his wife, Jane, are active members of Taylors First Baptist Church in nearby Taylors, South Carolina, and have three grown children.
