About the Author:

Samad Kottur 44, was born and raised in the small town of Kottur in Bellary district, South India. He presently works as a lecturer at the Government Pre University College in Hospet. When not teaching, he can be spotted either at a wetland, sanctuary or in some forested area. He is a freelance writer, photographer, wildlife activist and educator. He initiated conservation activities in and around the Daroji Bear Sanctuary more than a decade ago. He was a volunteer for the process to successfully eradicate Bear dancing in Karnataka right from the identification of captive bears to the rehabilitation of bear charmers and dancing bears. He initiated the campaign against ritual hunting and successfully stopped medieval ritual hunting in Hampi vicinity. He persistently strives to conserve the Sloth Bear habitat in the Kishkinda valley of Koppal district, and to document the birds of Bellary district. He has conducted research on the major fauna in the Kishkinda valley, using camera traps. He has also facilitated several awareness programs and bird watching camps for school children in the region.
Vijay Mohan Raj a native of Bellary works for the Indian Forest Service the custo- dians of visually amazing natural places in India. Based in Karnataka, South India, Vijay seeks solace in nature and photography. He is an optimist and believes that every small endeavour can help conserve our natural world. He networks with individuals and organisations untiringly to translate this into reality. He was instrumental in the discovery of the largest population of Lion tailed macaques in the World and the subsequent declaration of SirsiHonnavara forests in the Western Ghats as a Conservation Reserve. He is at home in the forests of the Western Ghats working on capacity building of the frontline staff of the Karnataka Forest Department to handle wildlife issues. Vijay's favorite quote: A creative mind is a restless soul.
Ganesh H Shankar is a soft- ware engineer by profession but nature photographer by passion. Based in Bangalore, he has been involved with nature photography for the past 15 years. His approach to nature photography is two fold an artistic expression of nature mostly using monotones and a creative expression of nature wherein he tries to create unique perspectives of nature. He loves the unexplicable art of light, colours, colourless, forms, shapes... and the challenge of characterising interactions of those attributes which touches the minds of those who love the art of light.
