STATED THIRD EDITION in GOOD+ condition. Book's title page lists 1848 copyright and states "THIRD EDITION" near bottom of page. Book is in GOOD + condition with red cloth binding with blind-stamped border and patterns on front board around gilt illustration and lettering. Front board's gilt illustration has man with stunned look on his face observing empty chest over bold and bright gilt lettering of title with gilt border. Book's sunned spine has stamped illustrations and lettering with only faint remains of gilt. Spine tips and corners are bumped and heavily worn with edge wear around, and the red cloth boards are darkened by soiling and rubbing. Uncut pages are a tad wavy but binding and insides are surprisingly tight, bright and unmarked. Foxing sporadically through book especially around frontispiece and perimeters of illustrations. Book is illustrated with 20 original graphic etchings and frontispiece portrait of author by GEORGE CRUIKSHANK. Previous owner has pasted in small description of book in middle of left FEP.
