Synopsis
The enterprising Vermont sleuth Tish McWhinny ― whom Booklist calls "an absolutely first-rate companion" ― returns in her fifth Vermont mystery, on the trail of a murderer at a local dog show.
Tish McWhinny reluctantly gets involved in restoring an old painting for a dog show promotion ― harmless enough, but then the painting is stolen and someone is murdered. Is the crime connected to the rather shady new couple now running the local store? What about the retired Royal Navy man, now much interested in art, who unexpectedly turns up? Or niece Sophie's secretive new boyfriend? About the Author
B. Comfort is a portrait and landscape painter and the author of four earlier Vermont village mysteries featuring Tish McWhinny. She lives in New York City and Landgrove, Vermont.

Even before she turned 77, Tish McWhinny was not the kind of girl who'd forge an Old Master. So when her friend Hilary Oats asks her to paint a dog picture in, let's say, an older style that his scapegrace godson Bruce Hemphill can use to kick off his canine art concession at an upcoming dog show, Tish politely bridlesand then has the clever idea of creatively ``restoring'' an old painting she's dug up. But when Bruce cleans up Tish's masterwork for exhibition, the name ``Landseer'' magically appears in the corner, leading to a pair of thorny ethical dilemmas: How seriously have Tish's ministrations damaged what might be a pricey commodity, and what should she tell Bruce about her part in his windfall?
