This is the incredible, untold story of the 1950 Indiana high school basketball season. The wild circumstances of that one season captured the essence of Hoosier hysteria in all its glory. But this is much more than a sports story. The students were born into the Great Depression and grew up in the shadow of World War II. The coaches were veterans of war. A fire destroyed a school, but not its spirit. A coal strike threatened everything. There were hard times and fond memories. But in the end, everyone shared one common love: basketball. Here is what readers have said about SEASON of UPSETS:

I grew up on a farm in the small town of Union Mills, Indiana. Like any Hoosier boy with a hoop in his barn, I loved the game of basketball. Digging through the attic as a kid one afternoon, I tripped across a tired, old picture of my Uncle Dean on a winning basketball team. Uncle Dean died in a farm accident at a young age and I never got to meet him, but I pinned that photo on my wall and have carried it with me everywhere I've lived for the last thirty years. That photo--captured on the front cover of this book--uncovered a much larger story about the life and times of people I'd never met and we all shared in one common love: basketball.
Matt Werner grew up on a farm in Union Mills, Indiana. He earned degrees from Purdue University and Bowling Green State University. For the past eight years, he has taught management and leadership.
