Grubb, executive editor at Abbeville Press, has joined the race toward the millennium with her nod to the last book of the Bible. The Book of Revelation is filled with a visionary narrative that discusses, among other things, the end of the world and the beginning of eternity. The tactile imagery and detailed descriptions in the text lend themselves to artistic representation, and the book has provided inspiration for many artists from early Christian through contemporary times. Grubb offers just under 150 pages of examples covering this time span: tapestries, paintings, enamels, manuscript illuminations, and more. However, the chapters themselves offer a paltry one to two pages of text each. As a result, appropriate supplemental reading, such as Norman Cohn's Pursuit of the Millenium (1970), is needed to bring out historical, psychological, and critical analysis of the Apocalypse. More suitable as a coffee-table book than an information resource, this is still a reasonable purchase for public libraries where demand warrants.?Nadine Dalton Speidel, Cuyahoga Cty.
