The poet was a professional soldier, delivering poems with "a present tense immediacy of action, paired with reflective insight that spans two decades". The poems are of the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, the "other" wars, and after the wars. The illustrator, "Moki" Martin, native of Hawaii, was a Navy Seal who was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with valor for a top secret POW rescue mission off of North Vietnam.
