D. STUART BRISCOE was born in England and, after a time with the British Royal Marines, embarked upon a career as a banker. He soon was called into full-time ministry at Capenwray, under the mentorship of Major Ian Thomas. For 30 years, he then served as Senior Pastor of Elmbrook Church in Milwaukee, which grew from 300 to 7,000 members under his leadership and spawned scores of sister churches throughout Southeastern Wisconsin. Stuart's sermons are heard daily by an international audience through the media ministry, Telling the Truth. He has authored more than 40 books, received three honorary doctorates, and is a popular speaker around the world--including many places not visited for holidays! Stuart and his wife Jill have three children and 13 grandchildren.
It has been said often, of late, that "the future is not what it used to be." This is a funny line, but what people mean by it is actually quite serious.
What we mean is that the times--our times--are out of sorts, that things are not as good as they should be. Nostalgia warms and brightens the past, and we feel as if our lot is tougher than the lot of others who have journeyed before us, in bygone days.
Every age will have its share of troubles. This classic book by Stuart Briscoe on the peace of God is set in an England under Hitler's siege. That is trouble enough.
But it is, ironically, in the very depths of trouble that we draw from the well of peace. Some of us have been there, but the well we have drawn from offered nothing. Others of us have drawn from a well that has refreshed us. We have learned that we cannot refresh ourselves in times when peace eludes us.
And that is the key to this amazing story, written by an amazing man. Meandering masterfully through the grand biblical narrative as well as through his own remarkable life, through momentous history and through common stories--and then connecting all of these things to our own stories--Dr. Briscoe explains how peace, perfect peace, can be ours.
And that there is only one way to get it.
At a time when so many thirsty people are digging wells in all the wrong places, this faithful ambassador for God offers an important message for all of us. Enjoy the journey. --Jim Van Eerden, Executive Editor, LIFEn MEDIA, Magnolia Forest, North Carolina
