Gram's Fairy Tales is a series of illustrated chapter books that retain the heart and characters, but not the violence, of the original Grimm tales. The stories are lyrical with touching and funny twists that make them as interesting for the adult reader as they are for children. This "new, kinder, gentler retelling" of CinderElla is the story of a prince who searches for his true love and an enchanted dancing shoe that seeks to be reunited with its fox-trotting partner. CinderElla's stepmother is kind but her stepsisters are demanding. As her wishes come true, CinderElla goes to the Ball and, thanks to her enchanted dancing shoes, becomes the favored dance partner of the Prince. At dawn, CinderElla races from the palace leaving behind one shoe that won't stop dancing. Sadly, she and the remaining shoe trudge home and wonder if they will ever see their perfect partners again. Other books currently in the series include Little Red Riding Hood, and Rumpelstiltskin.

Susan Meredith ("Gram") is a stepmother and grandmother. Her love of books led her to bring her granddaughters to various bookstores with the invitation to "choose whichever books they might like". However, in reviewing the books, especially the classic Grimm's Fairy Tales, "Gram" (as well as the parents) were concerned about the frightening images and evil characterizations. It was this reluctance to expose the children to "scary stuff" that inspired Ms. Meredith to rewrite the classic fairy tales in a style that is more positive, more whimsical, and more humorous; a style that her grandchildren refer to as "tickles and giggles."
