In 1935 Alton Cressman maneuvered his sturdy Model A Ford up a curvy, Kentucky mountain road to reach the log cabin where he lived with no electricity and no running water. His work in the Kentucky mountains was just the beginning of his explorations far from his loving Mennonite family in Pennsylvania where he was raised. He overcame personal handicaps and hardships to live a life that inspired individuals from prison inmates to future clergy. It chronicles Cressman's adventurous life from crawling through a dark narrow South Dakota cave to delivering a sermon in a thatched roof hut in the Philippines with a dog curled up on his feet. It is the story of a man who as minister and counselor followed in the steps of his bridge-building grandfather, but where his grandfather bridged rivers, Cressman sought to bridge the differences between people.
