Sunny, now retired from a life on the range, attended the first Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nevada, in 1985. Hooked, this poet has returned time and again--to the stage. He pens his own verses as well as reciting classic cowboy poetry, often headlining poetry gatherings and shows.
Jesse, a working cowboy, started writing poetry at an early age. Invited to the first poetry gathering in Elko, Nevada, he so entertained his audiences that today he and his rhymes are frequently featured in gatherings and shows across the continent. His belief in keeping the cowboy traditions alive is evident in his verse, where he paints the vivid reality of the lifestyle.
I know Sunny Hancock and Jesse Smith in three ways. First as men, secondly as cowboys and thirdly as poets. All three demand a great deal of admiration and respect,. As you read this book, you will find that admiration and respect are not demanded, but in there truest form (as sonly sunny and Jesse could experience them) both are shared. --Leon Flick, Cowboy Poet Oregon
What a pair of aces! Two of my personal favorite poets under one tin roof. There is a lot of dun and a lot of wisdom accumulated in this book. Yes, there are horses and cow dogs and manure in this volume, but there are also threatened Brontosauruses, cowboys wearing pantyhose, cowboys riding ATVs and keen observations of decades of cow- country change. And there is advise on esoteric subjects, like how to get your wife to pull a calf in her anniversary dress. Sunny and Jesse are two of the best poets in the old style, giving us involved narratives with a chuckle or a catch in the throat in every other line. --Warren Miller, Sharlot Hall Museum Prescott, Arizona
